AVicky Exley free kick earned the Rovers Belles a 1-0 victory over Chelsea at Tooting and Mitcham, sending them through in to the Quarter Final of the FA Women's Cup.

It was the Rovers Belles who made a bright start, with the first chance falling to Exley, whose far post header drew a fine save from Blues keeper Sarah Quantrill after eight minutes.

Chelsea looked to get in behind the Belles back four and use the pace of their front two, Helen Lander and Emma Plewa. From a Hayley Morwood pass, Lander got through only to hit a fifteen yard shot high over the bar on the quarter hour mark.

The Rovers Belles took the lead when Sarah Owen was scythed down just outside the area by Blues skipper Davies and EXLEY curled a right footed free kick into the right top corner after twenty one minutes. Lively Irish forward Aine O'Gorman went close to doubling the visitors lead on the half hour with a powerful run and shot well saved by Quantrill.

The closest Chelsea came to an equaliser in the first half was when Belles keeper Helen Alderson's clearance hit Sjoman and fell to Gemma Bonner 25 yards out, but the Blues defender's shot lacked the power to beat the retreating keeper.

In to the second half and the Rovers Belles threatened again from another free kick, this time taken by the impressive Kylla Sjoman, whose 25-yarder clipped the outside of the post and bounced to safety.

Chelsea made a double substitution on the hour, bringing on Jane and Rafferty and those two combined immediately, with Jane's fine cross being headed just over by Rafferty.

The Blues were enjoying a lot of possession as they went in search of the equaliser. Spence missed a great chance to level the score and send the game in to extra time when she saw her volley from twelve yards hit the bar and fly over.

Alderson then had to move quickly from her line to deny Sophie Perry as Chelsea upped the pressure but the back four, especially centre backs Maria Karlsson and Tori Willams, protected the keeper well and the Rovers Belles saw out time with few real alarms.
